What happens when we clean your rug

First we look at the back. Hand-knotted, tufted, or machine-woven all wash differently. We test dyes with a damp white towel on reds, deep blues, and any hand-dyed wool. If color moves, the rug goes off-site. Then we dust. Dry soil comes out before water touches anything, because fine gray street grit and brake dust from the 405 and 110 corridors packs down into the foundation yarns. A wet rug that was never dusted turns that grit into mud.

Washing follows fiber. Wool and wool-blend pieces over hardwood in Palos Verdes and the beach cities get controlled immersion or low-moisture wash, cool water, and pH kept friendly to wool. Polyester and PET tolerate more. Olefin releases soil easily but crushes, so grooming matters more than chemistry.

Drying is the step people skip. Rugs dry flat with air movement, not draped over a rail. June gloom and winter storms mean air movers and dehumidification, or you get musty backing and wick-back on older jute foundations.

We check fringe, check for moth activity in the pile base, and inspect the floor underneath. Pet urine that reached the pad or slab is a separate conversation.
