1. I have dark gray lines along the baseboards and under the doors. Can that be cleaned out, or is the carpet finished?

   That's filtration soiling. It's the most common thing we get called about in Lennox. Air is pulled through the carpet edge at the wall, under doors, and around HVAC returns. The fine particulate from the airport approach and the 105 and Century traffic gets trapped in the fibers there. It usually improves a lot with edge-specific pretreatment and hot water extraction. But it is a stain in the fiber, not loose dirt, so on older thin builder-grade carpet the lines often lighten rather than vanish completely. 2. My unit is small and doesn't get much air moving through it. How long will the carpet stay wet?
